Dome with optimized UV and scratch resistance The challenge Having a full overview of a larger area is extremely important for those responsible in many situations, especially when it comes to detecting dangers in this area. Surveillance camera systems are used for indoor and/or outdoor surveillance in public or private areas, in areas where there is a risk of explosion, such as on oil rigs or in the area of fossil extraction systems, which should continue to provide reliable images even in the event of incidents.
The dome is a very special design for hazardous areas Normally, dome cameras are equipped with plastic domes, polycarbonate, 0,8mm thick. In hazardous areas, these domes must be extremely robust. The domes must be impact-resistant and are typically exposed to harsh environmental outdoor conditions (weather conditions such as rain, hail, snow). Camera systems can also be exposed to vandalism, explosions and extreme prssure and temperature conditions. The image quality of the image captured by the camera is influenced by the wall thickness and the manufacturing quality of the optical dome.
The innovation: Our invention is designed to reduce image distortion and, in particular, to be resistant to explosion and pressure. The PSU Dome is made of a high-tech plastic from BASF, polysulfone. It is also used in firefighting/aeronautical technology. A tough plastic with a thin layer thickness of 3mm, which allows pressure up to 30bar. A polysulfone dome that is currently the best looking and safest explosion protection dome in the world .
Other polycarbonate domes are significantly thicker, which leads to problems with transmission and qualiy. The polysulfone material allows for thinner projection, better mechanical performance and better images. The dome is optimized with a two-part nano-coating, which prevents the penetration of UV light, ensures durability and the anti-scratch coating makes cleaning easier. Thanks to the choice of materials, the protective dome achieves a very high level of transparency, with more than 40x optical zoom possible in the camera´s HD field of view with an almost parallel beam path. In addition, the optical protective dome is hydrolysis-resistant and stable against the effects of water vapor.
Unlike our other housings, the newly developed VA4.1 does not consist of a body and 2 flange components, but of a body/flange combination made from a single component and just one flange. The new protection system is ideal for the installation of a panoramic camera (ExCam IPP3827 ), as the reduced wall thickness and the large dome maximize the viewing angle of a high-resolution wide-angle camera module.
